T. Hargrove Winter Fly Fishing Tournament

It’s no secret that T. Hargrove Fly Fishing Shop in St. Louis Missouri is my favorite store in the whole wide world. My girlfriend Sara walked in the door there a little under two years ago to inquire about a beginner fly rod setup she could afford for my birthday. Her budget was modest. Her knowledge of the sport, like mine at the time was virtually zero.

Craig, and Tom for whom the store is named immediately made her feel welcome and comfortable, they encouraged us to spend time in the shop, and to learn fly tying at their weekly evening classes.

One of the ways that the guys in the shop encourage new anglers to get more time on their fishing rods is through the Missouri Urban Fish Stocking Program which provides great opportunities to cast for trout in some of St. Louis’ most accessible parks.

On Sunday Nov 15th, a small, rag-tag group of fiends and neerdowell’s gathered at Jefferson Lake in Forest Park. The whistle was blown, the fishing commenced and two hours later, Amy won the tourney.
