Filson Dryden Briefcase

Many of you know that for years, I carried the Boundary Supply Prima System backpack as my everyday gear solution. The rugged looks, sturdy construction and smart design made it a trusted companion for a long time.

Fast forward to six months ago, and I found myself thinking that a shoulder carried briefcase might be a better option. I rarely carry my Sony A6500 camera anymore, forsaking it for the newer, incredibly impressive iPhone cameras of today.

I looked at lots of options this time around but I knew one thing…I was going to make an investment…I wasn’t going cheap, and I wasn’t going to make this decision without some careful consideration.

Filson, a Seattle Washington based outdoor equipment company, has been outfitting the Western Adventurer since 1897, that’s 125 years for the mathematically challenged. They don’t manufacturer their goods in the lightest rip stop nylons, rather, they make durable goods out of canvas, waxed tin cloth and heavy Cordura nylons. Their hunting apparel and accessories are some of the best in the business and their luggage is simply second to none.

The Dryden Briefcase is the entry point for Filson business focused bags at $195.00. The bag is made of 1000D Cordura Nylon, with a double layer on the bottom for added durability. The zippers are top quality and glide smoothly, even with one handed operation. The handle straps are made of full grain leather along with the zipper pulls. I chose the whiskey color and I couldn’t be happier with my choice.

The bag measures 16” wide, 3.75” deep by 12” tall and has a total capacity of 14 liters. The briefcase is partitioned into three main compartments, and a slim zippered panel along the back of the bag as well.

The main compartment is divided into two areas, one that accommodates a 15” laptop, and another that easily holds a full size notebook, 12.9 iPad pro, a book, a light rain jacket or fleece vest and any paperwork you might need to carry. The secondary front pockets are of equal size and provide great places for accessories like chargers, pens, keys, and more.

The back of the bag has an attached “trolly strap” to keep the bag in place when paired with your rolling suitcase. The provided nylon shoulder strap is wide and comfortable, but light enough to blend into the bag when not being used.

I couldn’t be happier with my selection and I hope to add some additional pieces of the Filson luggage to my collection in the coming years. I know it will last a lifetime and look incredible the entirety of it’s career.
